Christmas Day 2014 – who would have thought this would be the day that James would not only ask my Father but my Mother, Brother and Sister as well to take my hand in marriage. After a whirlwind 18 months of being together and no hesitation from my immediate family as to how special James makes me feel, 10 days later James popped the question at our local Wurtulla Beach with our precious puppy Roxanne in tow. Nothing could have been more perfect…until our wedding day!
Immediately planning our engagement party – Pelican Waters Golf Club was by far the best option. We wanted to hold out until after Winter but timing at the Club was proving to be scarce with wedding season in it’s prime through Spring and Summer. 8th of August 2015 was the day that was selected, being exactly one week after our two year anniversary. Invitations were sent out and excitement was growing but it wasn’t until we actually started thinking about wedding plans. The fact that we wanted a very small, intimate wedding, that we thought it could be worthwhile marrying in the morning and having our engagement party as our surprise reception – and so it all began. Unable to marry at Pelican Waters Golf Club due to guests staying at the Pelican Waters Golf Resort & Spa and the nature of our surprise wedding, we wanted something that wasn’t on the beach so as to represent both our childhood memories in the country. To the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast we went where we stumbled across the beautiful Maleny Retreat. WOW! The moment we took the tour, we knew it was the perfect place. Chills filled our bodies as we envisaged our day on this picturesque canvas. The serenity that surrounds Maleny Retreat is unimaginable with the Glasshouse Mountains falling as the backdrop on one side and beautiful country farms falling on the other.
We wanted to keep our ceremony design simple but fun; modern but classic. Kylie Carter from Beautiful Weddings furnished our ceremony beautifully & perfectly complimented by florals from Sandi Shankster from Willow Bud. Our marriage celebrant, Lynette Maguire, designed our ceremony with the perfect amount of history, love and most of all, laughter. Lynda Herron from Classic Wedding Cars provided our wedding car, Betty the Bentley, which added just the right amount of ‘classic’ to our day. Into the more intricate details, Kirra Calleja from Calleja Artistry gave me just the right look which wasn’t too over the top and exactly what I wanted. Stuart McLean from Underwoods Jewellers in Kawana made our beautiful wedding rings. Lastly, Joy Nicholson from Maleny Retreat worked behind the scenes all morning ensuring that our day ran smoothly. All of our suppliers involved with our wedding ceremony were absolutely delightful to deal with, and executed the day, and all the little pieces, exactly to what we had imagined.
Flowing into the night as our guests started to arrive at Pelican Waters Golf Club photographs from our
ceremony were playing on the television. Subsequently I have been informed that many people didn’t notice them at first as they thought they were an advertisement, but then realised it as James and I! Meanwhile, James and I were enjoying a beer and champagne in the back room being more than looked after by the wonderful staff. 6.20pm came and it was time to be introduced as Mr & Mrs Bennett! Laughter, tears, joy and surprised faces – what a moment! The rest of the night was thoroughly enjoyed by all with delicious canapés delivered with professional service and scrumptious, yet somewhat naughty cupcakes and cake made with love by Nina Peruzzi Jaksa from Bon Bons Cupcakes. Andrew from Network Disc-Jockeys provided the music on the night which kept all of our guests on their toes into the late hours.
Last but not least there was the magnificent lady who captured it all – Renee Towers. Renee caught moments that we didn’t even realise occurred – she went above and beyond to ensure that all aspects of our day were photographed and most importantly was such a delight to work with. From start to finish our day was truly magical and we will treasure it and everyone involved for the rest of our lives. Till death do us part.
