PRESS RELEASE 1st June – Local Golfer Charlie Dann Heads Overseas
Sunshine Coast golfer & staff member at Pelican Waters Golf Club is knocking on the door of being the next big successful Aussie Golfer. From his first selection as a QLD representative player, doors have already begun to open for local Pelican Waters Golfer; Charlie was invited by Golf Queensland to represent Pelican Waters Golf Club at several events in Europe.
Charlie selection came after he was recently chosen in the Golf Queensland Men’s Representative Team from competing in the Australian Men’s & Women’s Interstate Teams Matches played on home soil at Brisbane Golf Club from 9th -14th May.
His solid play in the preliminary matches meant he was the only recipient of a medal for undefeated player in preliminary games. His overall record of 5 wins, 1 draw & 1 loss. Qld team finished runner up in the series.
Charlie flew out on 23rd May to play his first event – Carrick Neill Scottish Men’s Open Stroke Play Championship at the Gullane Golf Club in Scotland on 27th May – 29th May. Charlie completed his 4 rounds in a tie for 17th with scores of 68, 73, 69, 69 (279) 5 under par. View the full score sheet here.
His next event is the Amateur Championships 2016 Stroke Play Qualifying at St Andrews, Scotland. He will stay on for several other championships in Europe before he comes home. This experience will put him one step closer to turning professional sooner rather than later.
Charlie started playing golf in his hometown of Gympie before moving to the Sunshine Coast. He worked after school in a Pro Shop while he played socially in his spare time. Charlie, now 23, has been playing the Australian Amatuer Circuit for the last couple of years. He has been a member at Pelican Waters Golf club for the past 18mths and you can expect to see more success in the future from this up and coming local golfer.
